Spain should be treated with extra caution due to terrorism and unrest. Terrorist organizations continue to plan potential attacks in Spain. Terrorists frequently target tourist destinations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, local government buildings, hotels, clubs, and restaurants. Places of worship, parks, important sporting, and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, and other public areas, can occur with little or no advance notice. Demonstrations frequently occur. They may occur in response to political or economic problems, on days with political significance, and during world events.
Spain Travel Restrictions Update Today
Some public health measures still exist to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Spain, though they may differ depending on the region. For more information, see Face mask usage and Public areas and services.
There are no COVID-19 health controls performed when entering Spain. Travel is not advised if you have COVID-19-compatible symptoms. The following documents must still be presented by visitors entering Spain from outside the E.U. or Schengen Area: a COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate, a Certificate of a SARSCoV2 diagnostic test with a negative result, or a COVID-19 Recovery Certificate.
The different regions of Spain have various restrictions. In Spain, masks must be worn in public transportation, pharmacies, and medical facilities. You might be required to wear a mask in taxis and other similar private transportation/car-sharing services.
U.S. Travel to Spain
U.S. citizens may travel to Spain if they are vaccinated against COVID-19. Minors up to 12 years of age do not have to show proof of vaccination, a recovery certificate, or a negative COVID test.
Do Americans Require a Visa to Enter Spain?
No, fortunately, U.S. citizens do not require a visa to enter Spain from the U.S. or to travel to any other Schengen nation. But as an American citizen, you must meet specific entry requirements and provide certain documents (which will be discussed later in this blog). The Spain entry requirements are all you need to be aware of.
The fact that there aren’t many requirements for U.S. citizens traveling to Spain will make them happy. Spain is one of the Schengen countries where U.S. citizens can travel without a visa, thanks to travel agreements between the U.S. and the E.U. You can visit Spain without a visa for 90 days if you’re a U.S. citizen. There are still additional requirements for U.S. citizens to fulfill to enter Spain.
Before departing from the U.S. for Spain, you must also fulfill a few more health requirements. These are included in the U.S. travel restrictions to Spain. As. I’ll now go over the prerequisites for traveling to Spain from the USA:
- Requirements for COVID-19 One of the requirements for traveling to Spain from the USA is that you have a COVID-19 vaccination, a recovery certificate, or positive test results.
Remember that you must take a COVID test at least 72 hours before arriving in Spain.
- A Completed Health Control Form (FCS)
Spain recently introduced a new health declaration form that
must be filled out by all visitors arriving from the U.S., along with proof of vaccination.
Although this form is no longer required, staying current on any travel-related news from the Spanish government is still a good idea.
New Restrictions in Spain Today
Spain, the only European nation still imposing restrictions on visitors from outside the E.U., has lifted its COVID restrictions.
The government website states that all COVID-19 travel restrictions for visitors to Spain have been lifted as of October 21, 2022. And neither E.U. nor non-EU citizens will need to provide documentation of immunization, recovery, or a negative COVID test. Visitors will no longer need to fill out a health form before traveling. Travelers arriving in Spain are no more extended subject to the restrictions that used to be in place. “Last month, the well-liked destination abolished all entry restrictions for visitors from the E.U. or the Schengen region. But there were still limitations for visitors from the U.K., U.S., and other countries. These were anticipated to last until at least mid-November.
Spain now welcomes all tourists regardless of vaccination status, recovery status, or testing results. Previously, you had to show proof of vaccination, a recovery certificate, or a negative test through the E.U. Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC) or Health Control Form to enter the country.
Is Wearing a Mask Necessary in Spain?
By royal decree, masks are no longer required in most settings, from bars and cafes to museums and theaters. Public transportation and medical settings are the two main exceptions. Face coverings are still necessary for hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, airplanes, buses, trains, metros, taxis, and ferries. A 1.5-meter distance can only be maintained indoors.
Spain Entry Requirements: Covid
Before departing, all travelers should familiarize themselves with Spain’s entry requirements. All COVID-19 travel restrictions for visitors to Spain have been lifted as of October 21, 2022. The guidelines that once applied to visitors entering Spain no longer hold true:
- No longer must you provide documentation of your complete vaccination history.
- You are no longer required to provide documentation of a COVID-19 test result.
- You must no longer provide documentation demonstrating your COVID-19 recovery within the last six months.

Restrictions and precautions related to COVID-19 are still in place in some locations. These might consist of the following:

Your passport, identification cards, or wallet may be requested by people posing as police officers in plain clothes. In this case, politely ask to see their official I.D. badge to ensure the request is valid. Thieves are particularly active in populated areas like airports and public transportation facilities

Be very wary of accepting assistance from anyone other than a uniformed member of the National Police Corps or Civil Guard in the event of a traffic-related incident.
Many municipalities have specialized police departments (SATE) that provide services in English and other languages for foreign tourists.

U.S. Travel Restrictions
All travelers to the United States must provide documentation of their complete COVID-19 vaccination (booster dose not required). There are very few exceptions to this rule.
All forms of COVID-19 vaccination status must have your full name plus one personal identifier. The date of birth or passport number matches the information on your passport. It must also include the name of the official source issuing the record and vaccine manufacturer, and the vaccination date (s).
Under the age of 18 are exempted from providing proof of immunization.

What You Must Understand
- Suppose you are a non-American or a U.S. citizen. A non-immigrant country who is not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful resident, or not entering the country on an immigrant visa. In that case, you must provide documentation proving that you have received the COVID-19 vaccination before flying into the country.
The President issued a Proclamation on October 25, 2021, to halt and restrict foreigners’ access to the country. The term “Covered individuals” refers to U.S. citizens who are not fully immunized against COVID-19 and are trying to enter the country by air. To carry out the President’s directive, CDC released the Order: Presidential Proclamation on Safe Resumption of WordwideTravel During the COVID-19 Pandemic on the same day.
Spain’s Covid Restrictions Today
Spain has experienced a significant amount of Covid-19-related cases and fatalities. Early in 2022, issues of the Omicron coronavirus variant peaked in Spain, but they have declined.
Entry restrictions related to Covid-19 have been lifted for Spain.
By October 21, 2022, there had been over 114,600 fatalities and over 13.4 million Covid infections in Spain.
More than 88.3% of the populace had received at least a single dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of October 21.
